Upcountry Land Trust

The Upcountry Land Trust is building a member-led network of cooperative farms. We’re lowering the cost of living and increasing access to farm and forest land, equipment, and housing, making it easier to regenerate land and make a living farming.

WHAT WE DO

Icon of Farmer & Sun

We make farmland and homes more affordable by distributing land access, home sites, and training to our members.

We are governed by our Members Assembly. Every member votes on what we do and how we do it.

The Trust owns the land, and the members own the equity in their homes. They can build, buy, and sell homes on the land with oversight from the Members Assembly.

All members get the chance to support regenerative farming, which may be the best chance working people have to build climate resilience and reverse climate change.

HOW IT WORKS

A NETWORK OF FARMERS & COOPERATIVES

Landowners donate deeds, subdivisions, easements and/or leases to the Upcountry Land Trust.

The Trust raises funds to pay for the legal and filing costs (surveys, subdivision filings, real estate lawyers, etc.), and helps members fundraise for additional infrastructure.

The Upcountry Land Trust (a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization) receives, holds, and distributes rights to land to our members.

Members pay dues, share labor, and run the organization democratically through the Members Assembly.
